Swedish photographer and filmmaker Anders Edström began working in fashion when he collaborated closely with the designer Martin Margiela in the 1990s, capturing some of the most iconic moments at Maison Martin Margiela. He then went on to establish ongoing relationships with Purple magazine and to shoot advertising campaigns for the likes of Miu Miu and Ann-Sofie Back. Throughout his career Anders has shot for editorial titles including Self Service, i-D, The Gentlewoman, AnOther, Dazed, index and DUNE.
His work has been exhibited internationally, in Paris at the National Museum of Modern Art and the Centre Georges Pompidou, as well as the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston and Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography. In 2001, he collaborated with Jeff Rian on a photography book for Purple; Buckshot Lexicon. Since then he made three monographs: Spidernets Places a Crew/ Waiting Some Birds a Bus a Woman published by SteidlMack in 2004, Safari published by Nieves in 2010 and Hanezawa Garden published by MACK in 2015.
An accomplished filmmaker, Anders has also made several films with C.W. Winter, including One Plus One 2 (2003) and the award-winning narrative feature film The Anchorage (2009), which won a Golden Leopard Prize at Locarno International Film Festival 2009 and was named Best Independent/Experimental Film of 2009 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.
